About Dainfern Lifestyle Estate

A vision was born. In 1986 JCI purchased the company Dainfern Investments (Pty) Ltd and submitted an application for a township to be known as "Dainfern" to be developed on the outskirts of Fourways. This pioneering act would see Dainfern develop into Gauteng’s first Residential Golf Estate Dainfern, a private Estate nestled away in the north east of Johannesburg, was acquired by Johnnic Properties in 1985. The old Fourways Golf Course formed part and parcel of the acreage acquired by Johnnic Properties and, after a great deal of research, consulting, planning and negotiation, the premier lifestyle Estate, Dainfern, was born. The township of Dainfern was proclaimed in 1992. The name Dainfern is a blend of the names of the two owners of the property from whom Johnnic purchased the property.

The Estate is managed by the Dainfern Homeowners Association originally registered as a Section 21 company in 1991. Johnnic transferred the management of the Estate to the Dainfern Homeowners Association on 31 August 2000. In accordance with the Company Laws of South Africa, the company profile was changed to a NPC (Not for Profit Company) in 2014. The Estate is governed by a Memorandum of Incorporation and the Estate Rules which are all embracing and entrench the rights and interests of all Homeowners. Homeowners pay a monthly levy to the DHA which cover the costs of Security, Estate Common Areas and Gardens and all other expenditure.

Security

Security is of the highest significance on the Estate and the two entry gates at 1. Cedar Road and 2. Broadacres Road and manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Strict access control procedures are in place and the Estate has a biometric system for easy access for residents and members of the golf club.

The Estate is patrolled by a fleet of roving vehicles with armed offices in various locations. The perimeter fence is secured with an electric fence, monitored by cameras. These high-tech cameras are viewed by the control room which is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Fidelity staff are equipped and well trained for dealing with any type of emergency.

Visitors to the Estate are reminded to ensure they have their drivers licence with them, or an identity documentation – without this, access will not be permitted.

Education close to home

Dainfern College founders, Russell and Stella Upneck, lived on Dainfern but with the ever-increasing nightmare of traffic congestion this meant a long commute to schools for their children and they dreamed of a private co-educational school on their doorstep. This dream was realised when Dainfern College opened its doors in 1997 with just 35 pupils, now the college has over 1100 pupils from Grade 0 through to Grade 12.

The convenience of a top independent school close to home cannot be underestimated and some 75% of pupils at the school are drawn from the surrounding estates. This, combined with the fact that families tend to stay at Dainfern College, as the school is both co-educational and caters for children from Grade 0 to Grade 12, means there is therefore a very strong sense of community at the school as students and their families have so much in common.

The location of the school introduces the luxury of a bygone era where pupils were able to walk or cycle or, in the case of our children, take a golf cart, to school in complete safety without having to leave the Estate.
